Where do you currently live?
Ottawa, Ontario
What years were you at camp and in what capacity?
I *think* I was a camper from 1998 – 2002, a CIT in 2003 and a counsellor in 2005.
What are some of your fondest memories from camp?
Tribal games (are they still called that??) are hands down my most vivid and fond memories! Getting decked out in red or blue (including face paint) and screaming our song and giving each game every ounce of energy and spirit!
What did camp teach you, what did you learn at camp?
Independence and confidence. I was 10 years old the first year I was at Ouareau. I was put on a train from Toronto to Montreal to spend a month away from my family. There was no shortage of homesickness that summer but by the end of the month I had made friends I still speak to, tried new activities, improved my French dramatically, and learned about people from different parts of Canada and the world.
Favorite program, song, activity or day at camp?
My favourite activities were kayaking, canoeing, climbing, sailing and arts and crafts. I loved singing at dining hall and playing games to see who would clear the table - and I LOVED Joe's amazing cooking! I loved playing Capture the Flag and Life Jacket and Squares. I really loved it all!
What did camp teach you? What did you learn at camp?
Camp taught me to be independent and self sufficient. I learned new activities, made new friends, I was taught to get out of my comfort zone and have fun in ways that were so different then everyday home life. Camp was a completely unique experience and environment and the memories and friendships that I formed during my time at camp will stay with me forever.
Tell us about your current career
Roam Flora is an off grid, solar-powered flower farm on the edge of Ottawa. I started it in 2017 as a part-time passion project and it quickly grew to a full-time job that I now share with my husband Dawson. In 2019, we moved from our urban plot to the country and we now grow approximately 2 acres of unique varieties of cut flowers and foliage.

Camp is an important experience for kids because it teaches them to be independent from their parents, try new things, get out of their comfort zone, and create the most amazing friendships.
